One of the many artists knocking on the door of new Hip-Hop, meet a multi-talented individual by way of Red Hook, Brooklyn. Hailing from NYC is rapper, singer, songwriter, engineer and videographer NYC (pronounced “Nick”) Florus. Also going by the alias NYC York, he began penning songs back in 1998 at the age of just nine years old. Florus landed his first record deal at the age of 14 at a then flourishing independent label. After patiently waiting his mixtape “Bacc 2 Da Bay6” dropped in 2006, serving as the first collection of music that really displayed NYC’s talents to a mass audience. Looking for a more optimum situation, The Hispanic MC parted ways with the label only months after the release of his mixtape in search of a more ideal route to critical acclaim. After navigating the roads without a label to call home for some time, the Brooklyn native took one of his interests to a professional level and began directing videos in late 2008. It was at this time that he linked up with his now business partner Butta, resulting in the heavily followed thisisbutta.blogspot.com where the pair not only uploaded the video’s which they have worked on, but also chronicle the current happenings in the Hip-Hop world. Their projects can also be viewed on vimeo.com/user1067564. As of the spring of 2010 some of their more notable efforts include directing and/or editing videos for World Star Hip-Hop’s Boogz Boogetz, Atlantic recording artists Maino and Phresy, Bcat’s Redhook411, and Hollywood Records songstress Jeannie Ortega. At only 21 years of age NYC Florus is most definitely looking to expand his catalogue of work even further and stack up on the accolades that await him. Equipped with a multi-faceted skill set the producer, songwriter, director and graphic designer should be kept under close watch as his blip on the radar is approaching at increasing speeds. Be on the look-out for more from this young artist and his camp, all the while staying tuned to thisisbutta.blogspot.com
