Mookie Jones

Labeled as one of Houston’s best kept secrets, Mookie Jones, who has been met with critical praise by industry insiders has remained relatively low-key in the public eye, until now. At just 20 years old, the rapper - born Oran Jones II - has become a breath of fresh air in an industry full of copycat Southern up-and-comers.
Creatively following in the footsteps of his father, legendary R&B artist Oran "Juice" Jones, Mookie made the decision at a very young age to pursue a career in hip-hop. However it wasn’t until he stepped into the studio with his godfather and rap legend Big Daddy Kane that he really honed in on his natural knack for wordplay. Seizing every opportunity to show his lyrical skill, Mookie entered his first major rap competition at the age of 15- “Roc tha Mic” sponsored by Roc-A-Fella records. Making himself known and continuing to stand out against other emcees he won the “Source Battle” held by Source Magazine the following year. By the time he was 17, Mookie was crowned the youngest emcee to win “The Prospect”, a national freestyle competition produced by Scion.
After taking a brief hiatus to polish his sound, the young rap phenomenon is back and ready to bring his unmatched style nationwide with his upcoming mixtape debut titled “Tuskegee”. A blend of smooth, upbeat, and raw tracks with an endless range of topics, Tuskegee puts Mookie’s thought-provoking lyrics and production talents on display.
Mookie explains, “This mixtape tells the story of being built to lose but born to win. Tuskegee represents being like everybody, yet unlike anybody. Paying homage to the Tuskegee Airmen, it stands for anybody who has ever been told they couldn’t do something but ends up being the best at it by taking risks and reaching new, unexplored heights.” Mookie specifically points out the track "Blowin Up," as being the anthem for winning in life no matter the circumstance. On his track titled “Forever” he shows his gritty desire for shutting down naysayers and turning dreams into reality.
Carrying such a diverse sound with so much to say, Mookie Jones is destined to shake up the industry and make an undeniable imprint in this new hip hop movement. Other featured tracks include: "Peter Pan" (in which he raps about the dilemma of being caught between two women), "Fill Me Up," and "Pineapple Express."
